ODDS N ENDS DEPT.
THE CINCY TEARDOWN CONTINUES
It's not very often where you see repeat World Champions decide to tear down their ML roster the following year. However, that's exactly what's happening with the Cincinnati Blue Darters. Gone are such stars as Zack Hernandez, Ariel Rosado, and Billy Lamb. Then, two new deals came down the pike.
Cincinnati sending Quentin McGee, Jun Dong, and DH prospect Jim McEwing, in exchange for all-world stud Tom Tomlinson.
Then in a deal that was agreed upon last night (pending approval), Cincinnati sends Matt Perez along with two prospects, in exchange for AAA SP Jose Vazquez and another prospect.
It's quite clear that Cincinnati is sacrificing the present for the future, and they're doing one hell of a job so far. Are they finished? We shall see...
SAN JUAN, HOOVER AGREE ON DEAL
Brand new San Juan Browns owner keithjs has quietly been improving his squad. Late last night, they came to terms with FA RF Philip Hoover. The deal is believed to be a 1 year/$835K deal. This could end up being one heck of a bargain for the Browns. He may not be the all-star caliber player that he once was, but he'll continue to rack up a high batting average. Solid pickup.
PARRA DEMOTED
The Little Rock Lightning demoted 2B Donaldo Parra down to their AAA farm team. Parra currently makes $4.0M this season, and $4.0M next season. Parra became expendable with the emergence of Brant Jackson and the recent FA signing of Zeus Wohlers.
Don't be surprised to see Parra back up with the ML club, possibly later in the year. Unless he gets dealt, but that's very unlikely due to his salary. Parra still has some value as a bench contributor.
LOUISVILLE MAKES SOME MOVES
The Louisville Sour Mashers made a couple FA signings, agreeing to terms with Jerome Munoz and Roosevelt Hidalgo. Munoz and Hidalgo were both signed to 1 year/$1.1M deals. Expect both players to contribute from the bench and bullpen, respectively.
Louisville also designated DH/C Ned McDonald for assignment.
