TRANSACTION OF THE WEEK

TEXAS SIGNS IFA STEAL

Sure, it would have been easy to say the Transaction of the Week was the Salem Lights signing all-world IFA Pedro Crespo. However, we at the SJ Blog like to think outside the box. While those lucky enough to see Crespo were busy drooling over his skills, the Texas Rangers quietly signed themselves a stud IFA of their own. Gerardo Viriato signed a MILB contract with Texas, which included a $10.1M bonus, an absolute steal. Viriato is going to have a great career hitting in that Texas ballpark. He has a great batting eye, and he'll feast against left-handers. Add above-average defense and excellent speed to go along with his hitting ratings, and he's quite the catch. He's only 19, so Texas may wait a while to see Viriato in the pros. However, we think the wait will be well worth it.
