PORTUGAL
The Pawtucket Blue Sox, still looking for more pop in the lineup, signed veteran slugger Ozzie Portugal. Pawtucket hopes Portugal shows a some of the form down the stretched that he showed when he hit 33 dingers with a .278 BA with Austin in Season 11.
"It's been a disappointing season. Lack of power has been one of our big problems. Hey, our division is weak and we're still in contention, so we look for Ozzie to help us down the stretch. I feel optimistic about our offense the rest of the way now."
The Blue Sox, desperately searching for the right chemistry, have DFA'd OF John Tanaka and disappointing FA pickup Pedro Jacquez. C Howard Lincoln was DFA/waived to make room for Portugal. Portugal will also serve as backup C.
