PAYROLL: $104.8M
KEY ADDS: Jaime Jefferies, Russell Gibson, Jonathan Rivera
KEY LOSSES: Rip Day, Angel Ramirez, Paul O'Donnell, Anthony Willoughby, Vance Franco, Harry Roque
Fresh off their World Series appearance, Boston appears loaded for another run. They did lose some talent (O'Donnell, Ramirez, Willoughby), but they did address their one major need. The bullpen, of course, and Jaime Jefferies was brought in to help with just that. Add in Jonathan Rivera to their already loaded lineup, and it looks as if the Stricken Gods will once again book their tickets to the playoffs.
PREDICTION: NL EAST CHAMPS
PAYROLL: $85.4M
KEY ADDS: Dennis Parkinson
KEY LOSSES: Spike Dykstra
Sometimes the best moves you make, are the ones you don't make. Kansas City was the least active club in the offseason, by far. They did resign Ross Beck, which was a major need. And let's not forget about some guy named Rigo Flores, who ready to take this team to new heights.
PREDICTION: 2nd PLACE
PAYROLL: $111.5M
KEY ADDS: Milt Webb, Cookie Kwon, Harry York, Oleg Gordon, Donnie Bird, Jim Bailes
KEY LOSSES: Bryan Bolden, Troy Coffman, Douglas Fryman, Dicky Rhodes
This could be the last go-around for this club. They are getting up there in age, and there's no telling just how much longer they'll be able to compete at this level. They've been quite active again in the offseason (Jim Bailes will be an all-star for Philly), and 90 wins once again should be easily attainable. Will it be good enough to get them in the playoffs?
PREDICTION: 3rd PLACE
PAYROLL: $106.9M
KEY ADDS: Fernando Gonzalez, Rich Rolls, Matthew King
KEY LOSSES: NONE
San Juan once again falls victim of being in arguably the toughest division in Shoeless Joe. This team will improve from last season, there's no doubt about that. Bobby Reese will have a Cy Young like season in S11. Picking up King was a good move and he'll help the offense out. However, the three clubs above them has just enough to finish ahead in the standings.
PREDICTION: 4th PLACE
