LANIER: JAPAN BOUND?

As we sit and wait for Nicholas Lanier to make his decision on where he will play ball this coming season, there is increasing speculation that he could be heading... to JAPAN?

Sources affiliated with the Yomiuri Giants of the Japanese League have indicated that they have offered Lanier a contract. Details on the contract are rather sketchy at the present time, but it is believed that Lanier will be offered a boatload of cash, a car, a home, and all the sushi he can eat.


Yomiuri has been searching for that power slugger for years now, ever since the mighty Sadaharu Oh retired some time ago. Lanier would be the closest thing to Oh that the Yomiuri fans have seen since. He would be an instant sensation over in the Far East.

However, baseball experts over in the States don't think Lanier is interested in playing Japanese Ball. Of course, as most negotiations go, he'll use whatever leverage he can get to receive the best deal.
