PORTUGAL

The Austin Bats signed DH Ozzie Portugal to a one year contract extension. The deal is believed to be worth $1.9M for next season.




The Little Rock Lightning lost P Danny Pose to the 60 day DL with an elbow strain. To take Pose's spot on the roster, the Lightning signed FA P Benito Mercedes. Mercedes played last season with the Jackson Rebels, where he went 7-11 with a 4.62 ERA.

The trade that sent SS Andres Tatis to the Pawtucket Fire Cats finalized. The Los Angeles BLUE bombers received CF Dan Brunson and SP Rico Pineda in the deal. Tatis is off to an OK start with PAW, hitting .288 in 15 games so far.

The Vancouver VooDoo promoted SP Jim Crow to their ML team. Crow went 7-3 with a 3.27 in 12 AAA starts.

KENNEDY

The S9 Amateur Draft was held, and the first overall pick was 2B Ed Kennedy. Kennedy was selected by the Montreal Olympians. Kennedy has yet to sign with Montreal.

The trade that sent 1B Rigo Mercado to the Austin Bats was finalized. The San Juan Expos received 1B/DH Marty Mercedes and 3B Hideki Hyun in the deal.

ROMERO

The Little Rock Lightning lost C/DH Tony Romero to a herniated disk in his neck that will require surgery. He was placed on the 60 day DL, and his season is more than likely done. The Lightning called up super stud C Esteban Espinosa to take his spot on the roster. Espinosa, Little Rock's #1 pick last season, is an everyday catcher who possesses the defense and bat to be an elite catcher in this world.

TARRAGA

The Pawtucket Fire Cats lost slugging LF Edgard Tarraga to a strained hamstring. He was placed on the 15 day DL.

DISPENZA

The Jackson Rebels placed Leo Dispenza on the waiver wire. Dispenza went 3-1 with a 7.42 ERA in S9. To take his spot on the ML roster, Jackson signed FA P Sherman Reed.
