S13 AWARD PREDICTIONS

..............................................................................................................................................................................

I didn't really plan on doing one of these, but it was a special request by one of our owners. The more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea. After all, you guys are used to seeing my playoff predictions go up in flames, so why not add award predictions as well. So here they are, predictions for AL/NL Rookie Of The Year, Cy Young Winners, and MVP winners.

A very intriguing list of players, to say the least. Kansas City never would have been able to go as far as they did without the contributions of Joe Quinn and Hensley Dixon. The same can be said in San Diego, where Terry Guerrero and Carlos Martis played important roles in the Padres' success. The Cheese Steaks didn't make the playoffs, but Rick Tartabull gives Philly fans a glimpse of the future.

The AL list is headlined by a pair of Salem Lights. Paul Siddall was the catalyst for their offense, and Pedro Crespo is a future superstar in the making. Otis Douglas pitched well for Las Vegas, and Chip Shields was a force in the San Fran lineup. Four out of five come from the AL West, but the winner won't be. Right, Virgil Leon?

Who Will Win: Virgil Leon, MTY

The NL clamped down on the high-ERA contenders, as every single one of them posted ERA's below-3.00. Jose Fernandez was his usual dominating self. Bobby Reese continues to show everybody why he's one of Shoeless Joe's top starters. Joey Holmes equaled Fernandez in wins and ERA, but his losses will damage his chances. Ken Owens and Alex Henriquez are major reasons why their respective teams are still battling it out in the NLCS. I love me a dominating closer, but something tells me the man from out west will take home the hardware.

Who Will Win: Jose Fernandez, ARI

Can you imagine Anderson Moss and Erv Orie in the same rotation? That would have happened, if they had not been dealt by Jackson. Alberto Hernandez was just as dominating as Henriquez in SD. I'll take Peter Williams and Tomas Sanchez on my rotation any day of the week. The Redhawks' ace posted some brilliant numbers, despite being in the offense-heavy AL West.

This won't take long at all. Diego Hernandez, Omar Owen, James Katou, and Curt Humphries all had great seasons for their respective teams. However, they aren't going to deny Nicholas Lanier from winning #8. No way, no sir, no how.

There are some big time bats in this list. Over 200+ HR for the season, and 7 MVP awards won (Lamb-3, Elcano-4). Billy Lamb's bat helped Cincinnati into the playoffs. Geronimo Elcano can very easily win his 5th with another dominating season. Denny Gaston was the spark plug that starts Milwaukee's offense. We all know what Pepe Cortes is capable of, and Mark Martin will be the centerpiece of the Las Vegas lineup for years to come. So, who's winning this one? My heart says Elcano, but my head says somebody different.

Who Will Win: Billy Lamb, CIN
