TOP 5 OFFSEASON TRADES

..............................................................................................................................................................................

We've seen a lot of deals go down so far here in S13. Many teams use this method to improve their club, while some prefer to shed payroll and load up on prospects. Several teams did very well with the trade. In no particular order, here they are:

LECROY HEADS TO ROCHESTER

You don't see players stay with the team they were originally drafted by for long periods of time, but Paul LeCroy managed to do just that. The very first player drafted in World history, LeCroy seemed destined to retire a Cheese Steak. However, when Philadelphia owner brisque stated his team was heading for a youth movement, you knew LeCroy's days were numbered. LeCroy was eventually dealt to the Rochester Mountain Dwellers, along with defensive specialist C Ron Nathan. Philadelphia got back 3 players, headlined by veteran CF Kevin Owen and prospect 2B David Mendoza. LeCroy could be just the guy to take Rochester back to the top where they once was.

TEXAS WELCOMES BARKLEY

Phase two of the Philadelphia Youth Movement plan saw Bill Barkley dealt to the Rangers. Barkley was the #1 overall pick back in S2, and he immediately helps a Texas franchise desperately lacking a superstar to become the face of the franchise. Also coming over to Texas was veteran SS Damian Zhang (left unprotected in the Rule 5 Draft, selected by New York). Going to Philadelphia was prized prospect Gerardo Viriato and solid SP prospect Hulk Junge.

OKC ACQUIRES WILLIAMS

It's always a tough race in the AL West, where the Oklahoma City Redhawks and the Salem Lights battle it out each season for the division title. The Redhawks may have gotten a leg up on the race by acquiring solid SP Peter Williams from the Pawtucket Blue Sox. In exchange for Williams, the Blue Sox acquires veteran DH/1B Oscar Hutton. OKC hopes Williams reverts back to the S11 form, where he won 20 games and was an All-Star. Whether that happens or not, remains to be seen.

SALEM ADDS TREVINO

As if the Salem Lights needed another big time slugger, they did just that. The Lights acquired 4-time All-Star Luis Trevino from Philadelphia, in exchange for super prospect Rick Tartabull. Tartabull was more than ML ready this season for Salem, but he fell victim to the numbers game and became expendable. Luis Trevino gains the DH spot full-time, and should produce big numbers in the middle of the Salem lineup.

BLASINGAME TRAVELS TO SAN FRAN

With Salem and Oklahoma City making moves to better themselves, it only makes sense for San Francisco to join the party. The VooDoo made a major move to improve their rotation by adding 2-time All-Star SP Toby Blasingame from Cincinnati, as well as AAA SS Jose Rosario, in exchange for AAA P Ronnie Curtis. This possibly could be Toby's final chance, as he has bounced around the league since first stepping foot in the majors. He suffered a serious forearm injury last season, so the big question will be whether or not he can successfully come back to produce as he once did.
