MONTERREY'S FOUR HOUR FIRESALE

When Monterrey owner jwelsh1023 proclaimed to the entire world that he was selling all his ML veterans off for prospects, nobody doubted him. He had the talent to pull the feat off, that was a given. However, I dont believe anybody could think that he could do a large portion of it... in FOUR HOURS. But, he did. Here's a quick recap.

OLMEDO GUERRERO FOR 2 PLAYERS

The first deal that went down involved Monterrey sending SP Olmedo Guerrero to San Juan in exchange for 2 prospects (AAA 2B Heath Battle, AAA LF Yeico Tavarez). Guerrero is a veteran SP who will bring leadership to a young organization. Olmedo has good pitches to go along with his pinpoint accuracy, and that should definitely help San Juan this season.

DICKY RHODES TO SD FOR 3 PLAYERS

Veteran SS Dicky Rhodes was the second to go, as he was sent to San Diego in exchange for three players (prospect 2B Dave Treadway, prospect P Orlando Dali, 33 year old AAA C/DH Vernon Raines). Rhodes should help the Padres out as he brings his good defense and excellent batting eye to the West Coast.

NICK DONOVAN TO SD FOR 3 PLAYERS

A couple minutes later, Monterrey then sent hard-throwing RHP Nick Donovan to the same San Diego Padres, in exchange for 3 more players (prospect P Joaquin DeLeon, prospect P Earl Arnold, veteran 3B Brendan Johnson). Donovan showed his versatility while in Monterrey. He won Fireman of the Year back in S6, then the next season went 13-2 while as a starter. However SD plans to use Donovan, you can expect great things in whichever role he has.

JIM BAILES TO VAN FOR 3 PLAYERS

In a little less than two hours later, Monterrey then agreed to send power hitting 1B Jim Bailes to Vancouver, in exchange for 3 players (ML 1B Brandon Walker, prospect P Timo Spencer, AAA C/1B Bump Garland). Bailes has a big time bat, and he just upgraded VAN's offense big time. Bailes' presence alone in the VAN lineup should guarantee more pitches for newly acquired teammates Heinie Roberts and Jonathan Rivera. Excellent pickup for VAN.

Whether this is the end of the firesale, remains to be seen. There's plenty of time left before the start of the regular season. Let's see what else jwelsh1023 has up his sleeve...
